    Description

This is a wonderful 1975 vintage copy of The Star Spangled Banner poster.  A large 24 1/4" x 18" overall dimensions, 15 3/4" x 13 1/2" are the picture only dimensions.  Color is still very vibrant.  The lyrics to The Star Spangled Banner are centered at the bottom.  There are poems on each side, unsure if it is all one poem or not, or if Francis Scott Key was the writer. Immediately below the picture, it says:
The portrait in the painting is of Francis Scott Key, composer of "The Star Spangled Banner."  Key, attempting to secure the release of an American prisoner of war, watched the British bombardment of Fort McHenry from a prisoner exchange boat at the rear of the British fleet during the night of September 13-14, 1814.  At dawn, the young Georgetown lawyer was charged with emotion to see the American flag still flying over the Baltimore harbor fortress, and immediately started to write the verse of the song that became our national anthem.
There are age discoloration spots, mostly on the bottom.  I have shown examples of it in the last four pictures.  Paper itself is in nice shape, no tears, bent corners, or creases. There are also spots on the back, about the top 4". This would have been the area facing out when rolled. There are instructions printed in the center back, on how to remove the curl from it.
This poster has been rolled up and stored for many years.  I had to put a rock on each corner in order to take pictures, which created some shadows.  It will be shipped rolled, and in a tube.
Overall, it is a wonderful piece of Americana history, suitable for framing.
