from Saturday's Toys presents...
a beautifully designed 7.5" ceramic plate from Takahashi San Francisco
"Peony in Glaze" is presented with a white peony flower on a deep cobalt blue background. Reverse of plate carries the traditional Takahashi backstamp. Imported from Japan and exclusively distributed through Takahashi San Francisco. Circa 1970's - 1980's.
The Takahashi Trading Company was founded by Henri and Tomoye Takahashi following their imprisonment at the Topaz, Utah concentration camp, along with many Japanese Americans from the San Francisco area, under orders from President Franklin Roosevelt. They were incarcerated there until the war ended and the camp was closed in October 1945.
The couple returned to the San Francisco area and established what would become one of the most successful Japanese trading companies on the west coast. Their desire was to help create goodwill for Japanese Americans and to improve understanding among all people, particularly after the harsh treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII. Henri Takahashi died in 2002 and Tomoye died in 2016. The distribution warehouses have been sold and the company is now closed.
A touch of graceful elegance, beautifully designed, and suitable for the finest home.

Saturday’s Toys and Disneyana Auctions
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and Disney historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
