Description
For sale isa small pitcher / large creamer or small pot made by Meissen before 1740 probably around 1730 . It does not have an impressed number yet and has a nice early handle shape as well. The pot is superbly hand painted with their famous strawflower pattern in under glaze blue and the paste has a ribbed or broken staff design to it. These early under glaze blue pieces are fairly hard to find since they were meant to be used and were often broken. It's nice to find a survivor! The pot is in amazing condition - no chips, etc. It did however most likely have a lid I would think. I guess it depends on what it was meant to be with this size. A creamer or pitcher might have not had one. The piece is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords as well as a blue painter's mark right under it. Rare to find these pre 1740 pieces nowadays. The jug is 4.5 inches tall, 4.75 inches from handle to spout and 3.54 inches in diameter.
