Description
For sale isa nice mid 18th century Meissen teabowl ( aka Köppchen ) cup and saucer dating to about 1740. It is hand painted with their famous hand painted Tischchenmuster design ( little table motif ) in puce and under glaze blue with gold highlights which is rarer than the usual version in iron red, puce, blue, green, yellow and gold. The table is in under glaze blue with Indian style flowers all around and a nice design to the rim. The set is in great condition with some wear to the saucer where the cup would sit from age, a glaze flaw to the underside by the mark that does not go through and a little wear to the very top inside edge of the tea bowl from use and it has a chip to the outside of the foot ring which is glazed over and from the making. The set displays perfectly. The saucer is marked underneath with the Meissen crossed swords marks as well as a blue painter's mark on the foot ring and an impressed number 2 as shown. The cup is slightly earlier just before 1740 as it does not have an impressed number yet just the crossed swords. The tea bowl is a bit over 1.75 inches tall and has a diameter of 3 inches. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 5.25 inches in diameter. 18th century German Germany Koeppchen
