Description
For sale isa really nice saucer made by Meissen in about 1735. A nice early type of design with the double red trim around a large central scene . The piece is superbly hand painted with the scene likely hand painted by Christian Friedrich Herold . One of the top early painters at the factory. The scene is in the harbor / merchant style and of a very good quality. It includes quite a few figures, buildings, a column with a vase on top to the side and even a horse in a landscape surrounding. The unusual part are the Kakiemon flowers all around the rim and even on the underside. I cannot find another example that was done on white ground. All others I came across have a ground color of some sort. The edge had a gold trim to it as did the bottom outside foot ring. It all makes this a very nice saucer! The piece is in great condition with just a touch of wear but the gold trim to the edge and foot ring are almost entirely gone. Looks almost like it was done on purpose likely to make it match better with another piece with brown trim which is more common. The dish is 1.125 inches tall and 5.125 inches in diameter. It is marked underneath with a nice early version of the under glaze blue crossed swords mark as well as two impressed star Dreher's marks on the foot ring for Christian Meynert.
