    Akita Dog Figurine Tobe Ware Japanese Artist Signed Senzan New Year of the Dog
    DETAILS OF ITEM
    This is an Akita dog figurine made from porcelain Tobe ware in Japan and artist signed Senzan at the bottom of the body.  It measures 7 inches long by 5 inches high.
    Tobe ware is porcelain production made in Tobe, Ehime (western Japan).  This ware first made its appearance in Japan when Kato Yasutoki, 9th lord of the Ozu Domain (1769-1787) hired potters from Hizen, Japan.  Production of the white porcelain ware commenced in Edo era, Anei 6 (1777).  In 1976, it was officially designated by the Japanese government as a traditional craft.
    The artist made this piece to commemorate the New Year of the Dog.  The condition is excellent.
    This would make a great gift for any Akita dog lover or that special someone who was born in the year of the dog namely: 1910, 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994. and 2006.
