  • Condition: The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) has graded this particularly rare specimen as MS70PL FDOI (e.g., Mint State 70 Prooflike, First Day of Issue). NGC is the world's largest and most trusted third-party grading service for coins and extends a Numeric Grade of "MS70" to a coin with no post-production imperfections at 5X magnification. "Prooflike" indicates that the surfaces exhibit a higher degree of reflectivity than is typically seen on a circulation-issue coin. The fields are mirrored and the devices may be frosted on both sides, reminiscent of a Proof coin. To qualify for "First Day of Issue", coins must be purchased within one day of the first day that a mint makes a new coin issue available for sale and must be received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository within one week of the release date. This stunning coin checks all of the boxes! Only 78 unsigned NGC MS70PL FDOI coins exist and thus far, only 2017 High Relief Palladium coins have provided a Prooflike example!

    Description

    HISTORY
    The American Palladium Eagle is the official palladium bullion coin of the United States.  Each coin has a face value of and contains 99.95% fine palladium.  It was authorized by the American Eagle Palladium Bullion Coin Act of 2010 which passed during the 111th United States Congress.
    In 2017 the United States Mint produced 15,000 of the first official palladium bullion coins.  Each coin weighs 1.0005 troy oz and is composed of 99.95% fine palladium.
    As mandated by the law, the obverse design of the palladium coin is an adaptation of Adolph A. Weinman’s ‘Winged Liberty’ design used on the obverse of the so-called ‘Mercury dime'.  The reverse design is based upon Weinman’s Eagle design for the 1907 American Institute of Architects (AIA) gold medal. In developing the coin, the United States Mint was able to utilize the original reverse plaster of the AIA gold medal. This is the first time that Weinman’s AIA design appears on a U.S. coin.
